University of California Riverside

I was asked to illustrate the cover and full-page opener for a story about the new medical school being built at UC Riverside. They wanted me to emphasize the new technology, the problem-solving students they were recruiting, and the effect it would have on the community.

There was a slight revision before going to the printers, but these were truest to my original idea.

They also asked for some icons to sprinkle into the article, which were fun to do, as I was given a lot of freedom.

The Hollywood Reporter

The Hollywood Reporter came to me with an idea to illustrate an article about how Arbitrage (starring Richard Gere) has been the most successful movie in terms of both box office and Video-On-Demand sales. After some tweaking of the original split-screen concept, we went with this one.

Alhough it wasn't necessary, I went through a couple bags of popcorn to find the right reference.

Wired: Warren Ellis

I was asked to do a portrait of Warren Ellis for Wired, to go with a book review of his new novel, Gun Machine. It was a fun piece to illustrate, even more fun to animate!

Happy New Year!

This past weekend was definitely a great way to ring in 2013. I had a great time meeting and seeing everyone at the Society of Illustrators 55 reception, and it finally hit me how crazy it was to see my name for the first time on the list of artists. Congrats to all the winners and everyone else in the show, well deserved!

And to follow that up, my American Illustration 31 book finally came in the mail the next day:

The book is amazing, and I'm honored to be a part of it (also for the first time).

Here's to a great year, cheers!
